Greend deal 154: Biobased construction building

Biobased Construction Companies have conluded that, despite the successful example projects, biobased building materials, products and building concepts are less used in the construction world than conventional building materials. There is no level playing field for biobased building materials, products and building concepts. The reason for this is that there is a short on environmental data, standardized assessment methods for biobased building materials. Products and building concepts do exist, but these materials, products and concepts are relatively unknown in the construction sector.

Pursuant to the 2012 Building Decree, an environmental performance calculation must be enclosed with every application for an environmental permit for the construction of homes and offices with a usable surface area greater than 100 m2. Each calculation must be performed with the so-called "Assessment method for environmental performance of buildings and civil engineering works (MPG).

The initiative of the Biobased construction companies is aimed at improving the position of biobased building materials, products and building concepts and ensuring that they are included in the system to calculate the environmental performance. In addition, the coalition strives to improve the exchange of knowledge and develop a marketing strategy for biobased building materials, products and building concepts.
