Natuurlijk Circulair
Foreco Housing Project
Instead of building a completely new structure, the client worked with us to look for possibilities in the area of reuse. We found these somewhere on an industrial estate in the form of a collection of obsolete units. These had been used for years as a temporary outpatient clinic for a hospital in Gouda. Once stripped and cleaned, they could be used as building blocks for the supporting structure of the new building.
The complex, consisting of a multifunctional guest accommodation and a manager's house, focuses on reuse, bio-based materials and self-sufficiency. The twelve units that form the architecture as building blocks are the structural basis of this circular building. They rest on a foundation of reused legion blocks. Thus, not a drop of new concrete was poured for the construction of this building. The units were then given a shell of biobased material that provides solid insulation and a healthy indoor climate. The complex is largely self-sufficient, energy-neutral and, of course, comfortable to stay in. The use of "virgin" materials has thus been kept to a minimum in this building.
